Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface, and set the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent any electrical issues.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the rear of the vehicle.
  • Secure with jack stands for safety.
3. Remove Driveshaft
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, universal joint puller (if needed)
  • Remove the bolts securing the driveshaft to the rear differential and the transmission.
  • Slide the driveshaft out carefully from the splines.
4. Inspect U-joints
  • Check for excessive play in each U-joint by moving it side to side.
  • If any U-joint shows signs of wear or damage, proceed to replacement.
5. Replace U-joint
  • Tools Required: U-joint press or hammer, socket set
  • Remove the retaining clips or bolts holding the U-joint in place.
  • Use the U-joint press to push out the old U-joint from the driveshaft.
  • Install the new U-joint by reversing the removal process. Ensure it is properly seated and secured with clips or bolts.
6. Reinstall Driveshaft
  • Align the driveshaft with the transmission and rear differential.
  • Reinstall the bolts and torque them to the manufacturer’s specifications (typically around 30-40 ft-lbs, but verify in the service manual).
7. Lower the Vehicle
  • Remove jack stands and lower the vehicle back to the ground.
  • Reconnect the battery.
