Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, jack and jack stands, strut spring compressor, torque wrench, fluid catch pan.
  • Safety Warnings: Always work on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and use jack stands to support the vehicle securely.
2. Remove the Wheel
  1. Loosen the lug nuts on the wheel corresponding to the leaky strut.
  2. Lift the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
  3. Remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel.
3. Disconnect the Strut Assembly
  1. Locate the upper strut mount and remove any covers or caps if necessary.
  2. Use a socket to remove the nuts securing the strut mount to the vehicle body.
  3. At the bottom of the strut, remove the bolts connecting the strut to the lower control arm using a socket and ratchet.
4. Remove the Strut
  1. Carefully lower the strut assembly from the vehicle.
  2. Use a strut spring compressor to safely compress the strut spring.
  3. Once compressed, remove the top nut using a socket to release the strut from the spring.
5. Install New Strut
  1. Position the new strut into the strut spring compressor and secure it.
  2. Install the top mount and nut, tightening to the manufacturer's specified torque.
  3. Carefully remove the spring compressor from the assembly.
  4. Reinstall the strut assembly into the vehicle by reversing the removal steps.
  5. Ensure all bolts and nuts are tightened to the manufacturer’s torque specifications.
6. Reinstall the Wheel
  1. Place the wheel back onto the hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  2. Lower the vehicle and then torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer's specification.
