Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, screwdrivers, fuel pressure gauge, ratchet, torque wrench, safety glasses, gloves.
  • Safety Warnings: Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent sparks. Relieve fuel system pressure before starting work.
2. Accessing the Fuel Pump
  1. Relieve Fuel Pressure:
    • Locate the fuel pump fuse in the fuse box and remove it.
    • Start the engine and let it run until it stalls, indicating that the fuel pressure has been relieved.
  2. Remove the Rear Seat Cushion:
    • Pull up on the front edge of the rear seat cushion to detach it from its clips.
  3. Remove the Fuel Pump Access Cover:
    • Unscrew the access cover located under the rear seat to expose the fuel pump assembly.
3. Removing the Fuel Pump
  1. Disconnect Electrical Connectors:
    • Carefully unplug the electrical connector from the fuel pump.
  2. Remove Fuel Lines:
    • Use a fuel line disconnect tool to detach the fuel lines from the pump, catching any spilled fuel with a rag.
  3. Unscrew the Fuel Pump Assembly:
    • Use a socket to remove the bolts securing the pump assembly to the fuel tank.
  4. Take Out the Fuel Pump:
    • Lift the fuel pump assembly out of the fuel tank carefully.
4. Installing the New Fuel Pump
  1. Prepare the New Pump:
    • Compare the new pump with the old one to ensure compatibility.
  2. Install the New Fuel Pump:
    • Place the new fuel pump into the fuel tank and secure it with the bolts.
  3. Reconnect Fuel Lines:
    • Reattach the fuel lines to the new pump, ensuring a tight fit.
  4. Reconnect Electrical Connectors:
    • Plug the electrical connector back into the new fuel pump.
5. Reassemble and Test
  1. Replace the Access Cover:
    • Secure the fuel pump access cover back in place.
  2. Reinstall the Rear Seat Cushion:
    • Push the rear seat cushion back into place until it clicks.
  3. Reconnect the Battery:
    • Reconnect the negative battery cable.
  4. Test for Leaks:
    • Turn the ignition to the "ON" position (without starting) to prime the fuel system and check for leaks around the fuel lines and pump.
