Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is off and cool.
2. Inspect and Repair Wiring
  • Tools Required: Wire strippers, electrical tape, multimeter
  • Inspect the wiring harness connected to the O2 sensor for any signs of wear or damage.
  • Repair any damaged wires by cutting out the affected section and using solder or wire connectors to splice in new wire.
  • Secure the wiring with electrical tape to prevent exposure.
3. Replace O2 Sensor
  • Tools Required: O2 sensor socket, ratchet, torque wrench
  • Locate the upstream O2 sensor on the exhaust manifold.
  • Disconnect the electrical connector from the O2 sensor.
  • Use the O2 sensor socket to remove the old sensor by turning it counterclockwise.
  • Apply anti-seize compound to the threads of the new O2 sensor and install it by turning it clockwise.
  • Torque the new O2 sensor to the manufacturer's specification (typically around 30 lb-ft).
  • Reconnect the electrical connector.
4. Clear Codes and Test
  • Tools Required: OBD-II scanner
  • Use the OBD-II scanner to clear the P0134 code from the ECM.
  • Start the engine and allow it to reach operating temperature.
  • Take the vehicle for a test drive to monitor for any reoccurrence of the P0134 code.
