Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts needed for the repair.
  • Disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on electrical components.
  • Allow the vehicle to cool down if it has been running.
2. Remove the Fuel Pump Assembly
  • Tools Required: Socket set, screwdriver, safety glasses, fuel line removal tool
  • Locate the access panel for the fuel pump assembly under the rear seat or trunk.
  • Remove the access panel and disconnect the fuel pump wiring harness.
  • Use the fuel line removal tool to disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel pump assembly.
  • Unscrew the retaining bolts and carefully lift the fuel pump assembly out of the fuel tank.
3. Inspect and Replace the Fuel Level Sender
  • Check the fuel level sender for proper resistance using a multimeter; it should vary with the position of the float.
  • If the fuel level sender is faulty, remove it from the fuel pump assembly.
  • Install the new fuel level sender into the pump assembly, ensuring it is secured properly.
4. Reassemble and Reinstall
  • Reinstall the fuel pump assembly back into the fuel tank, securing it with the retaining bolts.
  • Reconnect the fuel lines and ensure they are properly seated.
  • Reconnect the wiring harness for the fuel pump.
  • Replace the access panel and ensure it is secured.
5. Reconnect Battery
  • Reconnect the battery terminals and ensure they are tight.
  • Start the vehicle and check if the fuel gauge is now functioning correctly.
