Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts required.
  • Disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on electrical components.
  • Tools Required: OBD-II scanner, multimeter, socket set, torque wrench, oxygen sensor socket.
2. Remove the Oxygen Sensor
  • Locate the upstream O2 sensor, typically found on the exhaust manifold or exhaust pipe.
  • Use the oxygen sensor socket to unscrew the sensor from its position.
  • Carefully disconnect the wiring harness from the sensor.
3. Inspect and Clean
  • Inspect the threads of the O2 sensor hole for carbon buildup or damage.
  • Clean the threads with a wire brush or a suitable cleaner if necessary.
  • Ensure the new O2 sensor has a clean surface for installation.
4. Install New Oxygen Sensor
  • Apply anti-seize compound on the threads of the new O2 sensor (if not already applied).
  • Install the new O2 sensor by hand to avoid cross-threading, then tighten it with the oxygen sensor socket to the manufacturer's torque specifications (typically around 30-40 ft-lbs).
  • Reconnect the wiring harness securely.
5. Reconnect Battery and Clear Codes
  • Reconnect the battery.
  • Use the OBD-II scanner to clear the P0133 code from the ECM.
6. Test Drive
  • Drive the vehicle for at least 20 minutes to allow the ECM to monitor the new O2 sensor and check for any reoccurrence of the code.
