Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, C-clamp or brake caliper tool, brake cleaner, rags.
  • Safety Warnings:
    • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and securely supported on jack stands.
    • Wear gloves and safety glasses to protect against debris and brake dust.
2. Remove Wheel
  1. Loosen the lug nuts slightly while the vehicle is still on the ground.
  2. Use the jack to lift the vehicle and secure it on jack stands.
  3. Completely remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel to expose the brake assembly.
3. Remove Brake Caliper
  1. Locate the caliper bolts on the backside of the brake caliper.
  2. Using the socket set, remove the caliper mounting bolts.
  3. Carefully slide the caliper off the brake rotor and support it with a hanging wire or bungee cord to avoid straining the brake line.
4. Replace Brake Pads
  1. Remove the old brake pads from the caliper bracket.
  2. Use the C-clamp or brake caliper tool to compress the caliper piston back into the caliper housing to allow space for the new pads.
  3. Install the new brake pads into the caliper bracket, ensuring they are positioned correctly.
5. Reinstall Brake Caliper
  1. Slide the caliper back over the new brake pads and rotor.
  2. Reinsert and tighten the caliper mounting bolts to the manufacturer’s specified torque (usually around 25-35 ft-lbs).
  3. Ensure everything is aligned properly before proceeding.
6. Reinstall Wheel
  1. Place the wheel back onto the hub.
  2. Hand-tighten the lug nuts before lowering the vehicle.
  3. Lower the vehicle back to the ground and fully tighten the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specified torque (typically around 76-85 ft-lbs).
7. Test Brakes
  1. Pump the brake pedal several times to ensure the brake pads are seated properly and the brake fluid returns to the caliper.
  2. Check for any abnormalities or noises when the vehicle is in motion.
