Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts needed for repair.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
  • Allow the engine to cool down before starting work on the cooling system.
2. Replace Thermostat
  1. Drain the engine coolant into a clean container using a drain pan.
  2. Remove the thermostat housing by unscrewing the bolts (typically require a socket set).
  3. Carefully lift the thermostat out of its housing. Note the orientation for installation.
  4. Clean the mating surfaces on the engine and the housing to remove old gasket material.
  5. Install the new thermostat in the same orientation as the old one.
  6. Replace the thermostat housing and torque the bolts to the manufacturer's specification (usually around 15 ft-lbs, but verify).
  7. Refill the cooling system with the appropriate coolant for your vehicle.
3. Replace Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (if necessary)
  1. Locate the engine coolant temperature sensor, usually near the thermostat housing.
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor.
  3. Use a wrench to unscrew the old sensor from the engine block.
  4. Install the new sensor, ensuring it is tightened securely but not overtightened.
  5. Reconnect the electrical connector.
