Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, spark plug socket, ratchet, gap gauge, dielectric grease, compressed air (optional).
  • Parts Required: New spark plugs (OEM recommended), possibly new ignition coils if faulty.
  • Safety Warnings: Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shock.
2. Remove Engine Cover (if applicable)
  • Locate and remove any bolts or clips securing the engine cover.
  • Lift the engine cover off and set it aside carefully.
3. Access Spark Plugs
  • Identify the spark plug locations on the engine.
  • If equipped, disconnect the electrical connectors from the ignition coils by pressing the tabs and pulling them out gently.
4. Remove Spark Plugs
  • Using a spark plug socket, carefully loosen and remove each spark plug by turning counterclockwise.
  • Inspect each spark plug for signs of wear, damage, or fouling as they are removed.
5. Install New Spark Plugs
  • Check the gap on each new spark plug using a gap gauge, adjusting as necessary to meet specifications (typically around 0.044 inches).
  • Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the threads of the new spark plugs to aid in future removal.
  • Insert each new spark plug into the cylinder head by hand to avoid cross-threading, then tighten with the spark plug socket. Use a torque wrench to tighten to the manufacturer's specified torque (typically around 13-15 ft-lbs).
6. Reassemble and Test
  • Reconnect the ignition coil connectors securely.
  • Replace the engine cover if it was removed, securing it with bolts or clips.
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
