Tools Required

Step 1: Visual Inspection

1. Check Brake Fluid Level:

   • Open the hood and locate the brake fluid reservoir.

2. Inspect Brake Lines and Hoses:

   • Look for any visible leaks, kinks, or damages in the brake lines and hoses.

3. Check Brake Pads and Rotors:

   • Remove the wheels to inspect the brake pads and rotors.

Step 2: Brake Fluid Quality Test

1. Test Brake Fluid:
   • Use a brake fluid tester or refractometer to check the moisture content in the brake fluid.
   • If moisture content is above 3%, the fluid should be replaced.

Step 3: System Diagnostics

1. Scan for Error Codes:

   • Use an OBD-II scanner to check for any stored brake-related error codes.
   • Note down any codes and refer to the service manual for detailed diagnostics.

2. Check ABS System:

   • Ensure the ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) is functioning correctly by performing an ABS warning light test.

Step 4: Bleed the Brake System

1. Prepare for Bleeding:

   • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and the engine is off.
   • Wear gloves and safety goggles for protection.
   • Attach the brake bleeder kit to the bleeder valve on the brake caliper starting from the furthest wheel from the master cylinder (typically rear passenger side).

2. Bleeding Process:

   • Have an assistant pump the brake pedal several times and hold it down.
   • Open the bleeder valve to release air and fluid, then close it before releasing the brake pedal.
   • Repeat this process until no air bubbles are seen in the fluid.
   • Move sequentially to the next wheel: rear driver's side, front passenger side, and finally front driver's side.

3. Top Off Brake Fluid:

   • Ensure the brake fluid reservoir is topped off with the correct type of brake fluid (typically DOT 4 for Audi Q5 FY).

Repair Instructions

Step 1: Replace Brake Fluid

1. Drain Old Fluid:
   • Use a vacuum pump to remove old brake fluid from the reservoir.
   • Refill with new brake fluid and bleed the system as described above.

Step 2: Replace Damaged Components

1. Replace Damaged Lines or Hoses:

   • If any brake lines or hoses are found damaged, replace them with OEM parts.
   • Ensure all fittings are tightened to the manufacturer's specifications.

2. Replace Worn Pads and Rotors:

   • If brake pads or rotors are worn beyond the service limit, replace them with new components.
   • Ensure proper bedding-in of new pads and rotors following replacement.

Final Checks

1. Test Drive:

   • Perform a test drive to ensure the brake pedal feels firm and the vehicle stops efficiently.
   • Listen for any unusual noises or feel any vibrations during braking.

2. Recheck Fluid Levels:

   • After the test drive, recheck the brake fluid level and top off if necessary.
