Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: OBD-II scanner, smoke machine, basic hand tools, multimeter, pressure gauge.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and ensure the engine is cool.
  • Disconnect the battery before working on electrical components.
2. Replace Gas Cap
  • Inspect the gas cap for damage or a faulty seal.
  • If defective, replace with a new OEM gas cap:
    1. Remove the old gas cap by turning it counterclockwise.
    2. Install the new gas cap by turning it clockwise until it clicks into place.
3. Repairing EVAP Hoses
  • Identify any damaged hoses found during the visual inspection:
    1. Remove any clamps securing the damaged hose.
    2. Cut the damaged section of the hose or replace the entire hose if necessary.
    3. Install the new or repaired hose and secure with clamps.
4. Replace Charcoal Canister (if necessary)
  • If the charcoal canister is damaged:
    1. Disconnect the electrical connector from the canister.
    2. Remove the mounting bolts securing the canister to the vehicle.
    3. Replace the canister with a new OEM part, securing it with bolts and reconnecting the electrical connector.
5. Testing Purge Valve
  • If the purge valve is faulty:
    1. Disconnect the electrical connector from the purge valve.
    2. Use a multimeter to check for continuity and proper operation.
    3. Replace with a new valve if not functioning properly.
6. Smoke Test
  • Conduct a smoke test to ensure no leaks exist:
    1. Connect the smoke machine to the EVAP service port.
    2. Activate the machine and observe for smoke escaping from any hoses or connections.
    3. Repair any identified leaks.
