  • Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical issues.
2. Remove the Steering Rack
  • Tools Required: Socket set, wrench set, jack and jack stands, steering wheel puller (if necessary).
  • Raise the front of the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the front wheels for better access to the steering components.
  • Disconnect the steering tie rods from the steering rack using the socket set.
  • Detach the power steering lines connected to the rack (be prepared for fluid spillage).
  • Unbolt the steering rack from its mounting points under the vehicle.
  • Carefully remove the steering rack from its location.
3. Inspect and Clean
  • Inspect the removed steering rack for any visible damage or excessive wear.
  • Clean the mounting surfaces and the area around the steering rack to ensure proper sealing upon reinstallation.
4. Replace Seals or Steering Rack
  • If the leak is due to worn seals, replace the inner and outer seals as necessary.
  • If the steering rack is damaged, replace it with a new or refurbished unit.
  • Ensure that the new or repaired steering rack is compatible with the E90/E91 model.
5. Reinstall the Steering Rack
  • Position the steering rack back into place and secure it with bolts, torquing them to the manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Reattach the power steering lines and ensure they are secure.
  • Reconnect the steering tie rods and tighten them to the manufacturer's torque specifications.
6. Refill Power Steering Fluid
  • Fill the power steering reservoir with the recommended fluid type.
  • Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock to purge any air from the system.
7. Final Check
  • Inspect all connections for leaks.
