Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and secure it with wheel chocks.
  • Raise the vehicle using a jack and support it with jack stands.
2. Inspect and Clean Area
  • Use a degreaser to clean the area around the transmission.
  • Wipe down all suspected leak areas to identify the source more easily.
3. Replace Transmission Pan Gasket (if leaking)
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, gasket scraper, clean rags.
  • Remove the transmission pan bolts using a socket wrench.
  • Carefully lower the transmission pan and discard the old gasket.
  • Clean the mating surfaces of the transmission and pan thoroughly.
  • Place the new gasket on the transmission pan and reinstall the pan.
  • Torque the pan bolts to the manufacturer's specifications (typically around 10-12 Nm).
4. Replace Seals (if necessary)
  • Tools Required: Seal puller, socket set, torque wrench.
  • Remove the drive shaft or any components obstructing access to the seals.
  • Use a seal puller to remove the old input and/or output shaft seals.
  • Apply a small amount of transmission fluid to the new seals for easier installation.
  • Install the new seals, making sure they are seated properly.
  • Reassemble any components that were removed.
5. Refill Transmission Fluid
  • Use an appropriate transmission fluid type as per manufacturer specifications (typically Dexron III or equivalent).
  • Remove the fill plug on the transmission case and use a funnel to refill the fluid until it reaches the proper level.
  • Replace and tighten the fill plug.
