Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, flathead screwdriver, Phillips screwdriver, steering wheel puller.
  • Disconnect the vehicle battery to prevent accidental airbag deployment.
  • Allow the vehicle to cool if it has been driven recently.
2. Remove the Airbag
  • Using a flathead screwdriver, carefully pry open the airbag release tabs located on the rear of the steering wheel.
  • Disconnect the airbag connectors and remove the airbag module from the steering wheel.
  • Place the airbag in a safe, padded area away from direct sunlight.
3. Remove the Steering Wheel
  • Use a steering wheel puller to carefully detach the steering wheel from the column.
  • Mark the position of the steering wheel relative to the column for accurate reinstallation.
4. Remove the Steering Column Covers
  • Unscrew the screws securing the upper and lower steering column covers using a Phillips screwdriver.
  • Carefully remove the covers to expose the steering column assembly.
5. Replace Steering Column Components
  • Identify the damaged components (e.g., ignition switch, steering angle sensor).
  • Disconnect the wiring harnesses from the components needing replacement.
  • Remove the screws or bolts securing the components and replace them with new parts.
6. Reassemble Steering Column
  • Reattach the steering column covers, ensuring all clips and screws are secured.
  • Position the steering wheel back onto the column, aligning it with the marks made during removal.
  • Tighten the steering wheel bolt to the manufacturer’s torque specifications (typically around 30 Nm).
7. Reconnect Airbag and Battery
  • Reconnect the airbag connectors and carefully install the airbag module back onto the steering wheel.
  • Reconnect the vehicle battery.
