Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent any electrical shorts.
  • Raise the front of the vehicle and secure it on jack stands.

Tools Required:

  • Socket set
  • Torque wrench
  • Timing belt kit (belt, tensioner, idler pulley)
  • Screwdrivers (flat and Phillips)
  • Pliers
  • Engine support bar (if needed)
2. Remove Components
  • A. Remove the Engine Cover

    • Unscrew the bolts securing the engine cover and lift it off.
  • B. Remove the Accessory Belts

    • Use a ratchet to relieve tension on the accessory belt tensioners and remove the belts.
  • C. Remove the Crankshaft Pulley

    • Use a socket to remove the bolts holding the crankshaft pulley. You may need to hold the crankshaft with a wrench to prevent it from rotating.
3. Timing Belt Removal
  • A. Align Timing Marks

    • Rotate the crankshaft to align the timing marks on the crankshaft and camshaft gears.
  • B. Remove the Timing Belt Cover

    • Unscrew the bolts securing the timing belt cover and carefully remove it.
  • C. Remove the Timing Belt

    • Loosen the tensioner and remove the timing belt from the gears. Note the routing of the belt for installation.
4. Install New Timing Belt
  • A. Install New Tensioner and Idler Pulley

    • Replace the tensioner and idler pulley as per the manufacturer's specifications.
  • B. Install New Timing Belt

    • Route the new timing belt according to the original routing and ensure it is seated correctly on all gears.
  • C. Adjust Tension

    • Properly tension the timing belt by following the specifications provided in the service manual.
5. Reassemble Components
  • A. Reinstall Timing Belt Cover

    • Secure the timing belt cover with the bolts.
  • B. Reinstall Crankshaft Pulley

    • Position the crankshaft pulley and torque the bolts to the manufacturer's specifications.
  • C. Reinstall Accessory Belts

    • Reinstall the accessory belts and tension them appropriately.
  • D. Reinstall Engine Cover

    • Place the engine cover back on and secure it with bolts.
6. Final Checks
  • Reconnect the battery and start the engine.
  • Check for any unusual noises or signs of leaks.
