Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and secure it with wheel chocks.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to avoid electrical issues.
2. Drain Transmission Fluid
  • Place a drain pan under the transmission pan.
  • Remove the transmission pan bolts using a socket set.
  • Carefully lower the pan to drain the fluid completely.
  • Dispose of the old fluid properly.
3. Inspect and Replace Gasket/Seals
  • Clean the mating surfaces of the transmission and pan using a scraper or solvent.
  • Inspect the old gasket for wear and replace it with a new one if necessary.
  • If any seals were found to be leaking, replace those seals as well.
4. Reinstall Transmission Pan
  • Position the transmission pan back onto the transmission.
  • Hand-tighten the bolts to ensure proper alignment, then torque to the manufacturer's specifications (typically 10-12 Nm for BMW).
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
5. Refill Transmission Fluid
  • Use a funnel to add the appropriate transmission fluid through the dipstick tube or fill port, as specified in the owner's manual.
  • Check the fluid level with the engine running and transmission in the park position, adding fluid as necessary until the correct level is reached.
