Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Disconnect the vehicle battery to prevent electrical shorts.
  • Ensure the fuel tank is less than half full for easier access to the fuel level sensor.

Tools Required:

  • OBD-II scanner
  • Multimeter
  • Socket set
  • Torque wrench
  • Screwdriver set
2. Remove Fuel Pump Assembly
  1. Relieve fuel system pressure by removing the fuel pump fuse and running the engine until it stalls.
  2. Disconnect the battery.
  3. Remove the rear seat to access the fuel pump cover.
  4. Unscrew and remove the fuel pump cover.
  5. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the fuel pump and fuel level sensor.
  6. Remove the retaining ring securing the fuel pump assembly and carefully lift it out of the tank.
3. Inspect and Replace Fuel Level Sensor
  1. Remove the fuel level sensor from the fuel pump assembly.
  2. Inspect the sensor for any signs of damage or corrosion.
  3. If damaged, replace the fuel level sensor with a new one. Ensure it is compatible with the F30/F31 model.
  4. Reinstall the sensor into the pump assembly, ensuring it is seated correctly.
4. Reassemble and Test
  1. Reinstall the fuel pump assembly back into the fuel tank.
  2. Secure it with the retaining ring and reconnect the electrical connectors.
  3. Reattach the fuel pump cover and secure it with screws.
  4. Reinstall the rear seat.
  5. Reconnect the battery and install the fuel pump fuse.
  6. Start the engine and check the fuel gauge operation.
