Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal for safety.
2. Remove Wheel
  • Tools Required: Lug wrench, jack, jack stands
  • Loosen the lug nuts slightly while the vehicle is on the ground.
  • Raise the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the lug nuts completely and take off the wheel.
3. Remove Caliper
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench
  • Remove the bolts securing the brake caliper using the socket set.
  • Carefully slide the caliper off the rotor and suspend it using a bungee cord or similar method to avoid stress on the brake line.
4. Inspect and Clean
  • Visually inspect the caliper for leaks, cracks, or corrosion.
  • Clean the caliper and surrounding area with brake cleaner to remove dirt and debris.
5. Replace or Repair
  • If the caliper is damaged, replace it with a new or remanufactured unit.
  • If the caliper is functioning but has seized, consider rebuilding it by replacing seals and piston (parts required for this step).
  • Ensure all surfaces are clean before reassembly.
6. Reinstall Caliper
  • Position the caliper back onto the rotor and align it with the mounting bracket.
  • Reinstall caliper bolts and tighten to manufacturer specifications using a torque wrench.
7. Reassemble and Test
  • Reinstall the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle off the jack stands and then fully tighten the lug nuts in a crisscross pattern.
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
