Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack and jack stands, socket set, torque wrench, tie rod end puller, grease gun, and safety glasses.
  • Raise the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands. Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface.
2. Remove the Wheel
  • Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheel with a socket wrench.
  • Remove the lug nuts completely and take off the wheel to access the tie rod end.
3. Disconnect the Tie Rod End
  • Use a tie rod end puller to separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle.
    • Position the puller around the tie rod end and tighten until it pops free.
  • Remove the nut securing the tie rod end to the steering knuckle using a socket wrench.
4. Install the New Tie Rod End
  • Apply a small amount of grease to the threads of the new tie rod end.
  • Thread the new tie rod end into the steering rack by hand, then secure it with the nut, tightening to the manufacturer’s torque specification (typically around 37-45 ft-lbs).
  • Reconnect the tie rod end to the steering knuckle and secure with the nut, tightening it to the appropriate torque specification.
5. Reassemble
  • Reinstall the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle from the jack stands and use the torque wrench to tighten the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specifications (usually around 80-100 ft-lbs).
6. Final Checks
  • Perform a visual inspection of the steering components to ensure everything is secure.
  • Check the alignment, and adjust if necessary.
