Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to avoid electrical issues.

Tools Required:

  • Socket set
  • Torque wrench
  • Jack and jack stands
  • Spring compressor (if needed)
  • Pliers
  • Screwdrivers
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the vehicle at the designated lift points.
  • Secure the vehicle with jack stands to ensure stability.
3. Remove the Wheel
  • Use a socket set to remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel to access the shock absorber.
4. Disconnect the Shock Absorber
  • Locate the upper mount of the shock absorber inside the trunk or underneath the rear seat (for rear shocks).
  • Remove any covers or panels obstructing access.
  • Use the socket set to remove the bolts securing the upper mount.
  • At the lower end of the shock absorber, remove the bolts securing it to the lower control arm or axle.
5. Remove the Shock Absorber
  • Carefully pull the shock absorber out from its mount.
  • If it is a strut assembly, you may need to use a spring compressor to safely detach the spring from the strut.
6. Install the New Shock Absorber
  • Position the new shock absorber in place and secure it to the lower control arm or axle first.
  • Reattach the upper mount, ensuring it is properly aligned.
  • Torque the upper and lower bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications.
7. Reinstall the Wheel
  • Place the wheel back onto the hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle back to the ground and use a torque wrench to tighten the lug nuts to the specified torque.
8. Final Checks
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Test the suspension by pushing down on the vehicle and ensuring the new shock absorber properly dampens movement.
