Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts required for the repair.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is cool.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent any electrical issues.
2. Check and Top Off Engine Oil
  • Locate the oil filler cap and remove it.
  • Using a funnel, add the appropriate type and amount of oil as specified in the owner's manual.
  • Reinstall the oil filler cap securely.
3. Replace Oil Filter (if clogged or damaged)
  • Place an oil catch pan under the oil filter.
  • Use an oil filter wrench to remove the old oil filter.
  • Apply a small amount of new oil to the rubber O-ring of the new oil filter.
  • Install the new oil filter by hand until snug, then tighten it according to the manufacturer's specifications (usually about 3/4 turn after it makes contact).
4. Test Oil Pressure
  • Remove the oil pressure sending unit using an appropriate socket.
  • Install a mechanical oil pressure gauge in place of the sending unit.
  • Start the engine and observe the oil pressure readings on the gauge.
  • If the oil pressure is within the manufacturer's specifications (typically 10-15 psi at idle and 25-50 psi at higher RPMs), proceed to the next step; otherwise, replace the oil pump.
5. Replace Oil Pump (if necessary)
  • Drain the engine oil into a pan.
  • Remove the oil pan by unbolting it from the engine block and carefully prying it loose.
  • Remove the oil pump from its mounting location, noting any orientation for reinstallation.
  • Install the new oil pump, ensuring proper alignment and torque specifications are followed.
  • Reinstall the oil pan with a new gasket, torquing the bolts to the manufacturer's specifications.
6. Reconnect the Battery and Test
  • Reconnect the battery terminals.
  • Start the engine and monitor the oil pressure warning light.
  • Allow the engine to reach operating temperature and check for leaks.
