Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and park the vehicle on a level surface.
  • Ensure the engine is off and the keys are removed.
  • Gather safety glasses and gloves for protection.
2. Check and Top Off Power Steering Fluid
  • Locate the power steering reservoir.
  • Remove the cap and check the fluid level against the dipstick.
  • If low, add the appropriate power steering fluid as specified in the owner’s manual until it reaches the correct level.
3. Inspect and Replace Hoses
  • Use a socket set to remove any protective covers if necessary.
  • Visually inspect power steering hoses for cracks or leaks.
  • If damaged, use pliers to loosen the hose clamps, remove the old hoses, and replace them with new ones.
4. Inspect and Replace Power Steering Pump
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal for safety.
  • Remove the drive belt from the power steering pump using a socket set.
  • Use a wrench to remove bolts securing the power steering pump and disconnect the fluid lines.
  • Install the new power steering pump, torque bolts to manufacturer specifications, and reconnect fluid lines.
  • Reinstall the drive belt.
5. Bleed the Power Steering System
  • With the engine running, turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times to remove air from the system.
  • Check fluid level again and top off if necessary.
