Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and safety equipment.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the parking brake is engaged.
  • Wear gloves and safety goggles.
2. Locate the Leak
  • Use a flashlight to pinpoint the source of the brake fluid leak.
  • Clean the area around suspected leak points to identify fresh fluid.
3. Replace Damaged Components
  • If the leak is from:
    • Brake Lines:
      • 1.1. Disconnect brake line fittings using a line wrench.
      • 1.2. Cut and remove damaged sections.
      • 1.3. Install new brake line(s) and secure with proper fittings (torque specifications: usually 10-15 ft-lbs).
    • Brake Calipers:
      • 2.1. Remove the wheel and inspect the caliper.
      • 2.2. Remove caliper bolts and slide the caliper off.
      • 2.3. Replace the caliper if fluid is leaking from the piston seal.
      • 2.4. Reinstall caliper and tighten bolts to manufacturer specifications.
    • Master Cylinder:
      • 3.1. Disconnect the brake lines from the master cylinder.
      • 3.2. Unbolt the master cylinder from the brake booster.
      • 3.3. Replace with a new master cylinder.
      • 3.4. Reconnect brake lines and ensure proper sealing.
4. Bleed the Braking System
  • 4.1. Fill the brake fluid reservoir with the recommended brake fluid (DOT 4 or as specified).
  • 4.2. Start bleeding the brakes from the farthest wheel to the nearest (typically right rear, left rear, right front, left front).
  • 4.3. Use a brake bleeder kit or have an assistant pump the brake pedal while you open and close the bleeder valve.
  • 4.4. Ensure no air bubbles are present in the fluid being expelled.
