Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts: OBD-II scanner, multimeter, socket set, replacement fuel level sensor (if needed).
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
2. Inspect and Test Fuel Level Sensor
  • Remove the Fuel Pump Access Panel:
    • Use a socket set to remove screws securing the access panel in the trunk or under the rear seat.
  • Disconnect the Fuel Level Sensor Connector:
    • Gently pull the connector apart to disconnect it from the sensor.
  • Test Resistance:
    • Use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the sensor terminals while moving the float arm (if applicable) to ensure it varies smoothly.
    • Replace the sensor if readings are outside manufacturer specifications.
3. Replace Fuel Level Sensor (if needed)
  • Remove the Old Sensor:
    • Unscrew the retaining ring that holds the sensor in place using a socket or appropriate tool.
    • Carefully remove the old sensor from the fuel tank.
  • Install New Sensor:
    • Apply a small amount of fuel-safe lubricant to the O-ring of the new sensor.
    • Insert the new sensor into the tank and secure it with the retaining ring.
4. Reassemble
  • Reconnect the Fuel Level Sensor:
    • Plug the connector back into the new sensor.
  • Reinstall the Access Panel:
    • Reattach the access panel and secure it with screws.
  • Reconnect the Battery Terminal:
    • Reconnect the negative battery terminal securely.
