Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical issues during repair.
  • Allow the exhaust system to cool before beginning work.
2. Inspect and Repair Exhaust Leaks
  • Tools Required: Socket set, exhaust sealant
  • Inspect the exhaust system visually and listen for leaks. If found, repair or replace damaged sections.
  • Use exhaust sealant to seal any small leaks.
3. Replace Faulty Oxygen Sensors
  • Tools Required: O2 sensor socket, wrench set
  • Locate the upstream (pre-catalytic) and downstream (post-catalytic) oxygen sensors.
  • Disconnect the electrical connectors from both sensors.
  • Use the O2 sensor socket to remove the faulty sensor and install the new one. Torque the sensors to manufacturer's specifications (usually around 30 Nm).
  • Reconnect the electrical connectors.
4. Replace Catalytic Converter (if necessary)
  • Tools Required: Wrench set, jack and jack stands, exhaust pipe cutter (if needed)
  • Raise the vehicle securely on jack stands.
  • Disconnect the exhaust pipes from the catalytic converter using a wrench or exhaust pipe cutter if necessary.
  • Remove the catalytic converter from its mounting brackets.
  • Install the new catalytic converter and reconnect the exhaust pipes. Ensure all bolts are tightened to the specified torque.
  • Lower the vehicle safely.
