Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack and jack stands, wheel chocks, socket set, torque wrench, tie rod end puller, ball joint separator, grease gun.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface.
  • Disconnect the battery if necessary to avoid any electrical issues.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the front of the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the front wheels using a socket wrench.
3. Remove the Old Tie Rod Ends
  • Sub-step 1: Locate the tie rod ends connected to the steering knuckle.
  • Sub-step 2: Use a tie rod end puller or ball joint separator to disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Apply penetrating oil if necessary to ease removal.
  • Sub-step 3: Unscrew the tie rod end from the inner tie rod by turning it counterclockwise. Note the number of turns for accurate installation of the new part.
4. Install New Tie Rod Ends
  • Sub-step 1: Apply grease to the new tie rod ends as per manufacturer specifications.
  • Sub-step 2: Screw the new tie rod end onto the inner tie rod, matching the number of turns noted previously.
  • Sub-step 3: Reattach the tie rod end to the steering knuckle and tighten the nut to the manufacturer's torque specification (typically around 60-80 ft-lbs, refer to service manual for exact value).
5. Reassemble and Lower the Vehicle
  • Reinstall the front wheels and tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle back to the ground and remove the jack stands.
6. Alignment
  • After replacing the tie rod ends, perform a wheel alignment to ensure proper tracking and tire wear.
