Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal for safety.
2. Remove Driveshaft
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, pry bar.
  • Loosen and remove the bolts securing the driveshaft to the differential and transmission using the appropriate socket.
  • Carefully slide the driveshaft out from its mounting points. Use a pry bar if necessary to help dislodge it.
3. Inspect U-joints
  • Visually inspect the U-joints for signs of wear or damage. Look for rust, cracks, or excessive play.
  • Rotate each U-joint to check for smoothness; any binding or stiffness indicates a problem.
4. Replace U-joints (if needed)
  • Tools Required: U-joint press, grease, clean rags.
  • If the U-joints are damaged, press out the old U-joints using a U-joint press.
  • Clean the U-joint yoke and bearing caps thoroughly.
  • Insert new U-joints and ensure they are properly seated. Apply grease as per manufacturer specifications.
5. Reinstall Driveshaft
  • Carefully position the driveshaft back into place, aligning it with the differential and transmission.
  • Hand-tighten the bolts initially, then use a torque wrench to tighten them to the manufacturer's specified torque settings.
6. Reconnect Battery
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal securely.
