Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts needed for the repair.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and securely lifted using jack stands.
2. Remove Wheel
  • Remove the lug nuts using a socket wrench.
  • Take off the wheel to access the braking system.
3. Inspect and Replace Brake Rotors
  • Inspection: Use a dial indicator to measure rotor runout. If warped beyond manufacturer's specifications, replace the rotors.
  • Removal: Unbolt the caliper and hang it using a wire to avoid stress on the brake line. Remove the rotor by unscrewing it from the hub.
  • Replacement: Install new rotors, ensuring proper orientation and alignment. Torque bolts to manufacturer specifications (typically 80-100 Nm for BMW).
4. Replace Brake Pads
  • Removal: Remove old brake pads from the caliper bracket.
  • Installation: Apply brake grease to the back of new pads to prevent squealing. Install new pads into the caliper bracket.
5. Reassemble and Test
  • Reinstall the caliper over the new pads and rotor.
  • Reattach the wheel and lug nuts, tightening them in a crisscross pattern to the specified torque.
  • Lower the vehicle and perform a test drive to check for vibrations.
