Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, strut spring compressor (if replacing struts).
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the battery to avoid any electrical issues during repairs.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Loosen the lug nuts on the wheels.
  • Use the jack to lift the vehicle and support it with jack stands.
  • Remove the wheels to access the struts.
3. Remove Struts
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Detach the sway bar link from the strut using a socket wrench.
    2. Remove the lower strut mounting bolts using the appropriate socket.
    3. Support the lower control arm while removing the strut assembly from the top mount.
    4. Remove the upper strut mount nuts from inside the engine bay or trunk area.
4. Inspect and Replace
  • Inspect the strut assembly for wear and damage. If replacement is necessary:
    1. Use a strut spring compressor to safely compress the spring.
    2. Remove the top nut and carefully detach the strut from the spring.
    3. Install the new strut onto the spring and secure it with the top nut, adhering to manufacturer torque specifications.
    4. Reinstall the strut assembly back into the vehicle, reversing the removal steps.
5. Reassemble and Lower Vehicle
  • Reattach the sway bar link, lower strut mounting bolts, and upper strut mount nuts, ensuring proper torque.
  • Replace the wheels and tighten lug nuts to specification.
  • Lower the vehicle and remove jack stands.
