Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, jack and jack stands, strut spring compressor, impact wrench (optional), pry bar.
  • Raise the vehicle safely using the jack and secure it with jack stands. Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface.
  • Remove the wheel on the side where struts are being replaced.
2. Remove the Strut Assembly
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Disconnect the sway bar link from the strut using a socket.
    2. Remove the brake line bracket attached to the strut.
    3. Locate the strut top mount in the engine compartment; remove the nuts securing it using a socket.
    4. At the bottom of the strut, remove the nuts securing the strut to the steering knuckle using a socket.
    5. Carefully pull the strut out of its mount while ensuring not to damage any surrounding components.
3. Replace the Strut
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Use a strut spring compressor to safely compress the coil spring on the old strut.
    2. Remove the top nut of the strut mount while the spring is compressed.
    3. Carefully remove the spring and mount from the old strut.
    4. Install the spring and mount onto the new strut in the reverse order of removal.
    5. Ensure the top nut is torqued to the manufacturer’s specifications.
4. Reinstall the Strut Assembly
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Position the new strut assembly into the strut mount and align it with the steering knuckle.
    2. Secure the strut to the steering knuckle with the nuts and torque them to specifications.
    3. Reattach the brake line bracket and sway bar link, ensuring all connections are tight.
    4. Replace the top nuts in the engine compartment and torque to specifications.
5. Final Checks
  • Reinstall the wheel and lower the vehicle.
  • Repeat the process for the opposite side if needed.
