Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface, and the ignition is off.
  • Disconnect the battery for safety.
2. Raise and Secure the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the front of the BMW X3 and place it securely on jack stands.
  • Ensure the vehicle is stable before proceeding.
3. Remove the Old Tie Rod Ends
  • Tools Required: Socket set, wrench, tie rod end puller.
  • Remove the cotter pin and nut from the tie rod end using the appropriate socket.
  • Use a tie rod end puller to separate the tie rod from the steering knuckle.
  • Unscrew the tie rod end from the tie rod assembly and remove it from the vehicle.
4. Install New Tie Rod Ends
  • Screw in the new tie rod end into the tie rod assembly to the same length as the old one for proper alignment.
  • Reattach the tie rod end to the steering knuckle and tighten the nut to the manufacturer's specified torque.
  • Insert a new cotter pin to secure the nut.
5. Lower the Vehicle and Perform Wheel Alignment
  • Carefully lower the vehicle from the jack stands.
  • Perform a wheel alignment to ensure proper steering geometry and tire wear.
