my BMW X3 F25 (2011-2018) stalls at stoplights, what's the issue

1. Preparation

• Gather all necessary tools and parts.
• Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
• Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and safely secured with wheel chocks.

2. Inspect and Clean Throttle Body

• Tools Required: Socket set, throttle body cleaner, clean rags.
• Remove the air intake duct to access the throttle body.
• Clean the throttle body using throttle body cleaner and a clean rag, paying attention to the throttle plate.
• Reattach the air intake duct securely.

3. Replace Fuel Filter (if applicable)

• Tools Required: Fuel line removal tool, socket set, catch pan for fuel.
• Locate the fuel filter (often found along the fuel line).
• Relieve fuel system pressure by removing the fuel pump fuse and starting the engine until it stalls.
• Disconnect the fuel lines from the filter using the fuel line removal tool.
• Replace the old filter with a new one, ensuring the directional flow is correct.
• Reconnect the fuel lines and reinstall the fuel pump fuse.

4. Clean or Replace Idle Air Control Valve (IAC)

• Tools Required: Socket set, cleaning solvent (if cleaning).
• Locate the IAC valve, usually mounted on or near the throttle body.
• Remove the IAC valve from its mounting.
• If cleaning, use an appropriate solvent to clean the valve and ensure it operates smoothly.
• If replacing, install the new IAC valve according to manufacturer specifications.

5. Verify Electrical System

• Tools Required: Multimeter.
• Test the battery voltage; it should be between 12.4V to 12.7V when the engine is off.
• Start the vehicle and check the alternator output; it should read around 13.7V to 14.7V.
• If readings are outside these ranges, consider replacing the battery or alternator.
