Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and replacement parts.
  • Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to ensure safety.
  • Allow the engine to cool if it has been running.
2. Check Power Steering Fluid
  • Locate the power steering fluid reservoir.
  • Remove the cap and check the fluid level; it should be between the "MIN" and "MAX" marks.
  • If low, top off with the recommended fluid type (typically ATF or specific power steering fluid).
3. Inspect and Replace the Power Steering Pump (if necessary)
  • Remove the serpentine belt by loosening the tensioner with a wrench.
  • Disconnect the power steering pump from its mounting brackets.
  • Detach the fluid hoses from the pump, using a container to catch any leaking fluid.
  • Install the new power steering pump, ensuring it is securely fastened to the brackets.
  • Reconnect the fluid hoses and ensure they are tightly secured.
4. Check and Replace the Steering Rack (if necessary)
  • Lift the front of the vehicle and secure it on jack stands.
  • Disconnect the steering shaft from the steering rack.
  • Remove the bolts securing the rack to the subframe.
  • Carefully pull out the old steering rack and install the new one.
  • Reconnect the steering shaft and secure all bolts to the specified torque (typically around 30 Nm).
5. Bleed the Power Steering System
  • Refill the power steering fluid reservoir to the proper level.
  • Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock multiple times to bleed air from the system.
  • Check for leaks and ensure the fluid level remains within the acceptable range.
