Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and secure with wheel chocks.
  • Allow the engine to cool completely before starting work.
2. Drain Engine Oil
  • Place an oil catch pan under the oil drain plug.
  • Remove the drain plug using a socket wrench.
  • Allow the old oil to completely drain into the catch pan.
3. Replace Oil Filter
  • Locate the oil filter using an oil filter wrench.
  • Remove the old oil filter and ensure the rubber gasket comes off with it.
  • Apply a small amount of new oil to the rubber gasket of the new oil filter.
  • Install the new oil filter, tightening it according to the manufacturer's specifications.
4. Inspect and Replace Gaskets
  • Valve Cover Gasket:

    • Remove the engine cover if applicable.
    • Unscrew the valve cover bolts and carefully lift off the cover.
    • Remove the old gasket, clean the mating surfaces, and install a new gasket.
    • Reinstall the valve cover and torque the bolts to the specified value (usually around 10-12 Nm).
  • Oil Pan Gasket:

    • If the oil pan is leaking, remove the bolts securing it.
    • Carefully pry the oil pan off, ensuring no debris falls into the engine.
    • Clean both surfaces, apply a new gasket or sealant as required, and reinstall the oil pan, tightening to the specified torque (usually around 10-15 Nm).
5. Refill Engine Oil
  • Replace the drain plug and tighten securely.
  • Refill the engine with the appropriate grade of oil specified in the owner's manual.
  • Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes, checking for leaks around the oil filter and drain plug.
