Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and secured with wheel chocks.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
2. Drain Transmission Fluid
  • Tools Required: Drain pan, socket set
  • Place the drain pan under the transmission pan.
  • Remove the transmission pan bolts using the socket set.
  • Carefully lower the pan and allow the fluid to drain completely.
3. Remove Torque Converter
  • Tools Required: Jack, transmission jack, socket set, torque wrench
  • Raise the vehicle safely using a jack and secure with jack stands.
  • Remove the transmission mount bolts and lower the transmission slightly using the transmission jack.
  • Disconnect any electrical connectors or lines attached to the torque converter.
  • Remove the torque converter bolts securing it to the flex plate.
  • Carefully slide the torque converter off the input shaft.
4. Inspect and Replace Components
  • Tools Required: Multimeter, cleaning solvent
  • Inspect the torque converter for signs of wear or damage (e.g., cracks, leaks).
  • Check the input shaft for wear or damage.
  • If defective, replace the torque converter with a new one.
  • Clean the transmission pan and replace the filter if necessary.
5. Reassemble and Refill Transmission Fluid
  • Reinstall the torque converter by aligning it with the flex plate and securing it with bolts.
  • Reinstall the transmission pan and tighten the bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications using a torque wrench.
  • Refill the transmission with the appropriate fluid type as specified in the owner’s manual.
