Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack and jack stands, lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, brake grease, and safety goggles.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and the parking brake is engaged.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to ensure safety while working on the braking system.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the wheels using a lug wrench.
3. Inspect and Remove Brake Components
  • Brake Pads:

    • Remove the caliper bolts with a socket set and slide the caliper off.
    • Remove the old brake pads. If they are worn down to the metal, they need replacement.
  • Rotors:

    • Inspect the rotors for any grooves or scoring. If damaged, they should be replaced or resurfaced.
    • Remove the rotor by loosening any retaining screws and pulling it off the hub.
4. Install New Components
  • New Brake Pads:

    • Apply brake grease to the back of the new brake pads to prevent noise.
    • Install the new brake pads into the caliper bracket.
  • New Rotors (if necessary):

    • Clean the new rotors with brake cleaner to remove any protective coating.
    • Install the new rotor onto the hub and secure it with retaining screws.
5. Reassemble Brake Components
  • Reattach the caliper over the new pads and rotor.
  • Tighten the caliper bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque (typically around 25-30 Nm, but confirm in the service manual).
6. Reinstall Wheels and Lower Vehicle
  • Place the wheels back onto the hubs and tighten lug nuts in a crisscross pattern to the manufacturer's specified torque (usually 100-120 Nm).
  • Lower the vehicle and remove jack stands.
7. Final Check
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Pump the brake pedal several times to ensure brake pads seat properly against the rotors.
  • Check brake fluid level and top off if necessary.
