Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and set the parking brake.
  • Wear safety gloves and goggles.
2. Remove Rear Wheel
  • Tools Required: Socket set
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Loosen the lug nuts slightly while the vehicle is on the ground.
    2. Raise the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
    3. Remove the lug nuts completely and take off the wheel.
3. Remove Brake Caliper
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Locate the caliper mounting bolts and remove them using the socket set.
    2. Carefully slide the caliper off the rotor. Do not let it hang by the brake line.
    3. Secure the caliper with a bungee cord or hang it from the suspension.
4. Inspect and Replace Brake Pads
  • Tools Required: Brake pad spreader, torque wrench
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Remove the old brake pads from the caliper bracket.
    2. Compare the thickness of the old pads with the new pads; replace if below specifications.
    3. Use a brake pad spreader to push the caliper piston back into the caliper housing.
    4. Install the new brake pads into the caliper bracket.
5. Inspect and Replace Brake Rotor (if necessary)
  • Tools Required: Socket set, rotor puller (if stuck)
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Check the rotor for any visible damage or excessive wear.
    2. Remove the rotor by unscrewing any retaining screws and pulling it off the hub.
    3. If replacing, install the new rotor and secure it with retaining screws.
6. Reinstall Brake Caliper and Wheel
  • Tools Required: Torque wrench
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Slide the caliper back over the new brake pads and rotor.
    2. Reinstall the caliper mounting bolts and torque them to the manufacturer's specifications.
    3. Reattach the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
    4. Lower the vehicle and torque the lug nuts to the specified value.
