Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Tools Required:
    • Multimeter
    • Screwdriver set
    • OBD-II scanner
    • Replacement key fob battery (typically CR2032)
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked and secure.
2. Replace Key Fob Battery
  • Open the key fob by using a small screwdriver to gently pry apart the two halves.
  • Remove the old battery and note the orientation.
  • Insert the new battery in the correct orientation.
  • Reassemble the key fob and test its functionality.
3. Reprogram Key Fob
  • Sit inside the vehicle and close all doors.
  • Insert the key fob into the ignition and turn to the ON position without starting the engine.
  • Press and hold the unlock button on the key fob for approximately 10 seconds.
  • Release the unlock button while still holding the lock button for an additional 10 seconds.
  • Turn the ignition off and remove the key fob.
  • Test the remote start feature again.
4. Check Vehicle Battery
  • Open the hood and inspect the vehicle battery for corrosion or loose connections.
  • Tighten any loose terminals and clean any corrosion using a battery terminal cleaner.
  • If the battery is weak, replace it with a new one (typically a Group 49 battery for BMW X5).
