Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Disconnect the battery (negative terminal) to ensure safety.
  • Raise the vehicle and secure it on jack stands for access to the O2 sensor.
2. Remove the O2 Sensor
  • Locate the upstream O2 sensor on the exhaust manifold or pipe before the catalytic converter.
  • Use an O2 sensor socket or a wrench to carefully unscrew the sensor from its mounting location.
  • Disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor by pressing the release tab and pulling it apart.
3. Inspect and Clean
  • Inspect the sensor threads for damage and clean the mounting area of any debris or carbon buildup.
  • Check the connector for corrosion or damage; clean or replace as necessary.
4. Install New O2 Sensor
  • Apply anti-seize compound to the threads of the new O2 sensor (if applicable).
  • Thread the new O2 sensor by hand to avoid cross-threading, then tighten it with the O2 sensor socket to the manufacturer’s specified torque (typically around 30-40 Nm).
  • Reconnect the electrical connector securely.
5. Reset the Check Engine Light
  • Reconnect the battery and reset the check engine light using an OBD-II scanner.
  • Start the engine and allow it to reach operating temperature.
