Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to ensure safety during repairs.
2. Inspect and Repair Air Intake System
  • Tools Required: Screwdrivers, socket set
  • Remove the engine cover (if applicable) using the socket set.
  • Inspect and tighten all clamps and hoses on the air intake system.
  • If any hoses or the intake manifold are damaged, replace them.
3. Clean or Replace MAF Sensor
  • Tools Required: MAF cleaner, Torx or socket set
  • Disconnect the MAF sensor connector.
  • Remove the MAF sensor from the air intake duct.
  • Clean the sensor with MAF cleaner. If the sensor is damaged, replace it with a new one.
4. Inspect Fuel System
  • Tools Required: Fuel pressure gauge, socket set
  • Connect the fuel pressure gauge to the fuel rail.
  • Turn the ignition to the "ON" position (without starting) and check the pressure reading. It should be within the manufacturer’s specifications.
  • If the pressure is low, inspect the fuel pump and fuel filter for clogs and replace as needed.
5. Replace Oxygen Sensors (if necessary)
  • Tools Required: O2 sensor socket or wrench
  • Locate the upstream oxygen sensor(s) in the exhaust system.
  • Disconnect the sensor connector and unscrew the sensor using the O2 sensor socket.
  • Install the new oxygen sensor, ensuring it is properly torqued and reconnect the wiring harness.
6. Reconnect Battery and Clear Codes
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Use the OBD-II scanner to clear the P0171 code and any other related codes.
  • Start the engine and allow it to reach operating temperature to monitor for any reoccurring issues.
