Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to ensure safety.
2. Replace Spark Plugs
  1. Remove the engine cover (if applicable).
  2. Unplug the ignition coils by disconnecting the electrical connectors.
  3. Remove the ignition coils using a socket set.
  4. Remove the spark plugs using a spark plug socket and ratchet.
  5. Inspect the old spark plugs for signs of wear and ensure the correct gap on the new plugs (typically 0.028 inches for BMW).
  6. Install new spark plugs by hand to avoid cross-threading, then torque them to the manufacturer's specifications (around 23 Nm).
  7. Reinstall the ignition coils and secure them with the bolts. Reconnect electrical connectors.
3. Test and Replace Ignition Coils (if necessary)
  1. Swap ignition coils between cylinders to isolate the misfire.
  2. If misfire moves with the coil, replace the faulty coil with a new one.
  3. Secure the new ignition coil and reconnect the electrical connector.
4. Check Fuel Injectors
  1. Perform a fuel pressure test using a fuel pressure gauge to ensure adequate fuel delivery.
  2. If pressure is low, check the fuel pump and filter for clogs or failures.
  3. Clean or replace any clogged fuel injectors as necessary.
5. Inspect for Vacuum Leaks
  1. Visually inspect vacuum hoses for cracks or disconnections.
  2. Perform a smoke test to identify any hidden vacuum leaks.
  3. Replace any damaged hoses or gaskets.
