Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: OBD-II scanner, multimeter, socket set, torque wrench, wheel chocks, jack and jack stands.
  • Safety Warnings: Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface, engage the parking brake, and use wheel chocks before lifting the vehicle.
2. Replace the Wheel Speed Sensor
  1. Lift the Vehicle: Use the jack to raise the front of the vehicle and secure it on jack stands.
  2. Remove the Wheel: Use a socket set to remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel to access the left front wheel speed sensor.
  3. Disconnect the Old Sensor: Locate the wheel speed sensor connector, press the release tab, and disconnect it.
  4. Remove the Sensor: Locate the sensor mounting bolt (typically a Torx or hex screw), remove it with the appropriate tool, and extract the sensor from the hub.
  5. Install New Sensor: Insert the new wheel speed sensor into the hub and secure it with the mounting bolt. Tighten to the manufacturer’s torque specification.
  6. Reconnect the Sensor: Plug in the new sensor connector securely.
3. Clear Error Codes
  1. Reconnect the Battery (if disconnected) and use the OBD-II scanner to clear the C0040 code.
  2. Test Drive: Conduct a test drive to ensure the issue is resolved and check that the dashboard warning lights do not reappear.
