Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the parking brake is engaged.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent any electrical issues.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a hydraulic jack to lift the vehicle at the designated lift points.
  • Securely place jack stands under the vehicle to ensure stability.
3. Remove the Wheel
  • Use a lug wrench to remove the wheel lug nuts.
  • Take off the wheel and set it aside.
4. Remove Old Shock Absorbers
  • Top Mounting Bolts:

    • Locate the top shock mounting bolts under the rear seat or trunk area (for rear shocks) or under the hood (for front shocks).
    • Use the appropriate socket and ratchet to remove the bolts.
  • Bottom Mounting Bolts:

    • Locate the bottom mounting bolts on the shock absorber.
    • Use a socket wrench to remove these bolts as well.
  • Carefully pull the shock absorber out of its position.

5. Install New Shock Absorbers
  • Position New Shock:

    • Insert the new shock absorber into the mounting location, ensuring it aligns properly with the bolt holes.
  • Install Bottom Mounting Bolts:

    • Hand-tighten the bottom mounting bolts first, then use a torque wrench to tighten them to the manufacturer’s specifications (typically around 40-60 lb-ft but check specific specs).
  • Install Top Mounting Bolts:

    • Place the top mounting bolts through the shock absorber and into the mounting location.
    • Hand-tighten and then torque to specifications.
6. Reinstall the Wheel
  • Place the wheel back onto the hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle from the jack stands and then use the lug wrench to fully tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern to the manufacturer’s specifications.
7. Final Checks
  • Reconnect the battery.
  • Check for any leaks around the new shock absorbers.
