Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Wrench set, power steering fluid, funnel, pressure gauge, rags.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and the engine is off before starting work.
2. Inspect and Refill Power Steering Fluid
  • Locate the power steering fluid reservoir.
  • Remove the cap and check the fluid level. If low, add the recommended power steering fluid until it reaches the full mark.
  • Recheck the cap to ensure it is properly sealed.
3. Address Leaks
  • If leaks are found, tighten any loose fittings or replace damaged hoses.
  • For significant leaks, replace the power steering pump or steering rack as necessary.
4. Bleed the Power Steering System
  • With the engine off, fill the reservoir to the proper level.
  • Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times to work the fluid through the system.
  • Check the fluid level again and top up if necessary, then repeat until the whooshing sound diminishes.
5. Replace Power Steering Pump (if necessary)
  • Disconnect the battery to ensure safety.
  • Remove the serpentine belt using a belt tensioner tool.
  • Disconnect the power steering pump from the hoses and remove it from its mounting.
  • Install the new pump in reverse order, ensuring all connections are tight.
  • Refill the power steering reservoir with fluid and bleed the system again.
