💡 Expert Tip

For complex repairs like this, consider taking photos at each step. This helps if you need to reverse a step or consult with a mechanic. Also, keep all removed parts organized - you may need to reference them during reassembly.

Verification

After completing the repair, verify that the issue has been resolved:

  • ✓Test the affected component to ensure it functions correctly
  • ✓Check for any error codes or warning lights
  • ✓Monitor the vehicle for a few days to ensure the issue does not recur

Prevention Tips

To prevent this issue from occurring again:

  • •Follow the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule
  • •Address warning signs early before they develop into major issues
  • •Use quality parts and fluids recommended for your vehicle
  • •Keep detailed records of all repairs and maintenance

Tools & Equipment Required

  • •Jack and jack stands
  • •Lug wrench
  • •Brake cleaner
  • •C-clamp
  • •Socket set
  • •Torque wrench
  • •High-temperature brake grease

Parts Required

Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack and jack stands, lug wrench, brake cleaner, C-clamp, socket set, torque wrench, grease, caliper tool.
  • Ensure vehicle is parked on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to ensure safety during the repair.
2. Remove Wheel
  • Loosen lug nuts using a lug wrench.
  • Lift the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel.
3. Inspect and Clean Caliper
  • Remove the caliper mounting bolts using a socket set.
  • Carefully slide the caliper off the rotor; do not let it hang by the brake line.
  • Clean the caliper bracket and slide pins with brake cleaner.
  • Inspect the slide pins for damage; replace if necessary.
4. Lubricate Slide Pins
  • Clean the slide pins thoroughly and apply high-temperature brake grease.
  • Reinsert the slide pins into the caliper bracket, ensuring they move freely.
5. Check and Service Caliper Piston
  • Use a C-clamp to compress the caliper piston back into the caliper housing.
  • Inspect the piston for damage or wear. If the piston is damaged, replace the caliper.
  • Ensure the rubber dust boot is intact and not torn.
6. Reassemble
  • Slide the caliper back onto the rotor and secure it with the mounting bolts. Torque to the manufacturer’s specifications (typically around 25-35 Nm).
  • Reinstall the wheel, hand-tighten the lug nuts, lower the vehicle, and then torque the lug nuts to the specified value (usually around 120 Nm).
7. Flush and Replace Brake Fluid (if necessary)
  • If the brake fluid is contaminated, flush the brake lines and replace with new fluid according to manufacturer's specifications.
