Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: OBD-II scanner, multimeter, socket set, torque wrench, safety goggles, gloves.
  • Safety Warnings: Disconnect the negative battery terminal before working on electrical systems and allow the engine to cool before proceeding.
2. Remove the Oxygen Sensor
  1. Locate the oxygen sensor on Bank 1 (usually near the exhaust manifold).
  2. Use a socket wrench to carefully unscrew the oxygen sensor.
  3. Disconnect the electrical connector by pressing the release tab and pulling it apart.
3. Inspect and Replace
  1. Inspect the old oxygen sensor for physical damage or carbon buildup.
  2. If damaged, replace it with a new OEM or high-quality aftermarket oxygen sensor.
  3. Apply anti-seize compound on the threads of the new sensor to ensure a proper seal and easier removal in the future.
4. Reinstall the Oxygen Sensor
  1. Insert the new oxygen sensor into the exhaust manifold and tighten it with a torque wrench to the manufacturer's specifications (usually around 30 Nm).
  2. Reconnect the electrical connector securely until you hear a click.
5. Reset the Engine Control Module (ECM)
  1. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  2. Use the OBD-II scanner to clear the P0134 code from the ECM.
  3. Start the engine and allow it to reach operating temperature.
