Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts necessary for the repair.
  • Safety gloves and goggles should be worn during the procedure.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and the engine is off before starting.
2. Check and Refill Power Steering Fluid
  • Tools Required: Funnel, clean rag
  • Remove the power steering reservoir cap.
  • Use a funnel to add the appropriate power steering fluid (check owner’s manual for specifications) to the reservoir until it reaches the correct level.
  • Replace the cap securely and start the engine, allowing the fluid to circulate.
3. Inspect and Replace Power Steering Pump (if necessary)
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, power steering pump removal tool
  • Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.
  • Remove the power steering fluid reservoir for access (if necessary).
  • Detach the power steering pump belt by loosening the tensioner and sliding the belt off.
  • Unbolt the power steering pump from its mounting bracket and disconnect the power steering lines (be prepared for fluid spillage).
  • Install the new power steering pump by reversing the removal steps:
    • Position the new pump in place and tighten bolts to manufacturer's torque specifications.
    • Reattach the power steering lines and ensure they are secure.
    • Reinstall the power steering belt and adjust tension as needed.
  • Reinstall the power steering fluid reservoir.
4. Bleed the Power Steering System
  • Tools Required: Clean rags, funnel
  • Fill the power steering reservoir with fluid if it was drained.
  • Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times to remove air from the system.
  • Check fluid levels again and top off as necessary.
