Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Park the vehicle on a flat surface, engage the parking brake, and secure with wheel chocks.
  • Disconnect the battery for safety.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a hydraulic jack to lift the front of the vehicle.
  • Secure it with jack stands under the frame for safety.
3. Remove Wheel
  • Use a lug wrench to remove the wheel.
  • Place the wheel aside safely.
4. Inspect and Replace Ball Joints
  • Inspection:
    • Check ball joint boots for tears or leaks.
    • Use a pry bar to apply pressure on the ball joint and check for movement.
  • Removal:
    • Remove the cotter pin and nut securing the ball joint to the steering knuckle.
    • Use a ball joint separator tool to disconnect the ball joint from the knuckle.
    • If applicable, remove the retaining bolts from the lower control arm.
  • Installation:
    • Position the new ball joint and secure it with the nut and cotter pin.
    • Reattach any components removed during the process.
5. Reinstall Wheel and Lower Vehicle
  • Reinstall the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle from the jack stands and then tighten the lug nuts to the manufacturer's specified torque.
