Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Park the vehicle on a flat surface, engage the parking brake, and use wheel chocks.
  • Wear safety glasses and gloves for protection.
2. Identify and Fix the Leak

a. Brake Line Repair

  • If a damaged brake line is found:
    • Use a line wrench to disconnect the line at the leak point.
    • Cut out the damaged section and replace with a new brake line of the same diameter.
    • Secure the new line with appropriate fittings.

b. Brake Caliper Replacement

  • If leaking from the brake caliper:
    • Loosen and remove the caliper mounting bolts using a socket set.
    • Carefully slide the caliper off the rotor and hang it using a bungee cord (do not let it dangle by the brake line).
    • Replace the caliper with a new one, ensuring to install new seals if necessary.
    • Reattach the caliper and torque the bolts to manufacturer specifications.

c. Master Cylinder Replacement

  • If the master cylinder is leaking:
    • Remove the brake fluid from the reservoir using a turkey baster.
    • Disconnect the brake lines from the master cylinder and remove the mounting bolts.
    • Install the new master cylinder and reconnect the brake lines, torquing to specifications.
3. Bleed the Brake System
  • After any repairs, bleed the brake system:
    • Begin at the wheel farthest from the master cylinder (usually the right rear).
    • Use a helper or a one-man brake bleeder tool to ensure all air is removed from the lines.
    • Repeat for all wheels in the order: right rear, left rear, right front, left front.
