Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack and jack stands, lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, measuring caliper, safety glasses, gloves.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the ignition is off.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal for safety.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Use the jack to lift the front or rear of the vehicle, depending on where the uneven wear is observed.
  • Secure the vehicle with jack stands.
3. Remove Wheel
  • Use a lug wrench to remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel.
  • Place the wheel aside safely.
4. Inspect and Replace Brake Pads
  • Sub-steps:
    • Remove the caliper by unscrewing the caliper bolts with the socket set.
    • Slide the caliper off the rotor and support it without stressing the brake line.
    • Remove the old brake pads from the caliper bracket.
    • Inspect the caliper for sticking pistons or damage.
    • If necessary, compress the caliper piston using a C-clamp.
    • Install new brake pads ensuring they match the specifications of the vehicle.
5. Inspect and Replace Brake Rotors (if needed)
  • If the rotors show uneven wear or are below the minimum thickness, replace them.
  • Remove the caliper bracket and rotor.
  • Install the new rotor, ensuring it is clean and free from contaminants.
  • Reattach the caliper bracket and torque to manufacturer specifications.
6. Reassemble and Lower Vehicle
  • Reattach the caliper and torque the bolts to specifications.
  • Place the wheel back on and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle and torque the lug nuts in a crisscross pattern to the specified torque.
7. Final Checks
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Test the brakes by pressing the brake pedal a few times to ensure proper operation.
